For more than 10 years artistic director of Artisans d’Angkor, now Theam has launched a new project that includes training a team of artisans apprentices while he embarks on a new creative journey of his own painting.

As an artist-designer, TheamL. is one of the few overseas educated Cambodians involved in helping to revive the Cambodian craft sector since 1995. After receiving a sound artistic and technical education at the École Boule where he studied interior design and graphics, then at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, he returned to his native country to be reunited with those he had left behind.

Theam’s desire to better understand the Cambodian people and also to share his artistic and technical knowledge and experience prompted him to set out on a mission to learn about his country, Khmer Art and culture. He has trawled through temples and pagodas across the country, visited people’s homes, and studied whatever artwork and artefacts he could lay his hands on.
